I might buy an electric violin, are there any books designed to teach electric violin and also like shredding?

Actually, it's not much different. I mainly play traditional violin, but I have played electric violins in the past.

There are in fact books, but I wouldn't recommend them by any means. If you have a teacher or instructor of some sort, you might try chatting with them about whether they'd be able to help you in this area. Learning from a professional in person is the best way to go; that way, you won't have to be your own judge, or second - guess your techniques.

Essentially, though, it's the same. Depending on the electric violin you get; all models are different, it'll probably be a different shape. But, it should be set up in such a way that you can hold and play it as you would any other violin.

If your main concern is learning to play it, and you're worried it'll be too much of a contrast with normal playing, though I assure you it's not, you can consider getting a pickup and amp for the violin you already play. That way, there's very little difference, and you can switch back and forth at will. It would also be more comfortable for you, most likely.

Not really, the electric violin is played the same as an acoustic one.

Oh, I see...you want to sound like Hendrix on the violin ? I have never seen any books on this subject. I would learn your blues scales and experiment with harmonics too .

I think a harmonic note thrown it at the right place could sound like an electric guitar feedback.

Some effect pedals would be good too. I have heard electric violin put through a wah pedal and a distortion pedal. Go easy on the distortion though....too much can sound like crap ; you just need a touch. The wah pedal sounds cool.

Make sure you have a decent amp ; reverb is a must for this sort of music.

PS is this what you want to play ?
